“Our essence, that which will define us,

it is what we will build ourselves through our actions ”.

Jean-Paul Sartre (French philosopher, 1905-1980)

These words of the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre serve as an introduction to a work that was born as a commission from the “Manuel de Falla” Board of the Cádiz Provincial Council.

It pays homage to Manuel de Falla, delving into the essence of his music and person. Falla has known – like no other Spanish composer – to use as materials for his works, the essences of our musical tradition from the Renaissance and Baroque to folklore. His meticulousness, his neatness, his knowledge of him, his musical legacy, are true examples of these essences.

The work uses materials that evoke the sound of Falla, such as the use of melodic arabesques, superposition of rhythms in different layers, use of modal sounds, juxtaposition of different materials, …

The use of new instrumental techniques expand this musical refinement that will lead to the creation of a piece with different musical essences.
